A box people keep
A rigid box does not fold flat and does not bend in the hand. That weight tells your customer the product inside is worth the price, and most people keep the box long after the purchase.

Frequently asked questions
What is a rigid box?
A rigid box, also called a set-up box, is made from thick greyboard (chipboard) wrapped in printed paper. It arrives in its final shape and does not fold flat, which is why it feels heavier and more solid than a folding carton.
What is the difference between a rigid box and a folding carton?
A folding carton is thin paperboard that is printed, die-cut and shipped flat. A rigid box uses board roughly three to four times thicker, and the print is on a separate wrap paper glued over the board. Rigid boxes cost more but protect better and are usually kept by the customer.
How thick is the board in a printed rigid box?
Most rigid boxes use 2 mm greyboard, with 3 mm for large or heavy products and 1.5 mm for small boxes. The printed wrap is a thinner art paper, usually 120 to 157 gsm.
Which rigid box styles can you print?
Magnetic closure boxes, two-piece lid and base boxes, drawer (slide) boxes, book-style boxes, shoulder-neck boxes and collapsible rigid boxes that ship flat.
How is a rigid box printed?
The artwork is offset printed in CMYK or Pantone on the wrap paper, laminated, then wrapped around the board. Foil stamping, embossing, debossing and spot UV are added to the wrap before it is glued.
Can rigid boxes have inserts?
Yes. EVA foam, card, moulded pulp and satin-lined trays are cut to the shape of the product so it does not move in transit.
Are rigid boxes recyclable?
The greyboard is made from recycled paper fibre and the box is paper-based. Magnets, foam inserts and plastic lamination should be removed or avoided if full recyclability matters to you; ask us for a paper-only build.
Why do rigid boxes cost more than other boxes?
They use more material and more hand work: the board is cut, the corners are taped, and the wrap is applied panel by panel. Price per box drops as quantity rises, and collapsible styles reduce shipping cost.
Is there a minimum order for printed rigid boxes?
No minimum order. You can order a short run to test a design and reorder the same specification later.
How long do printed rigid boxes take to make and deliver?
Production takes 7–10 business days after you approve the digital proof, and delivery in the USA takes 3–5 business days with free shipping. Rush production is 5 business days.
